Vintage Hand Painted Porcelain Rectangular Hinged Snuff or Trinket Box Raised Bas Relief by German Ernst Bohne Sons DRESDEN POTSCHAPPEL. Box is marked with a Blue N with a five point crown over the N. Measures Approximately 2-7/8" X 2-1/4" X 1-3/4. Item is marked with a Blue N with a five point crown over the N.

Good preowned condition no chips noted, subject matter is visible, some discoloration at very inner corner of box. Top of box fits very tightly when snapped closed. See all photos as part of description. Lovely Capodimonte style porcelain snuff or trinket box.

The box is richly decorated in bas relief hand painted in vivid colors with cherubs or child like figures with a half horse half man figure. Finished with bronze or brass hinged mounts. Base is marked with spurious blue crowned N mark. In overall good condition with general wear commensurate with age. The Ernst Bohne factory of Rudolstadt, Thuringia, was founded in 1848. In 1854 Ernst passed away and the factory became Ernst Bohne Söhne (Ernst Bohne Sons). Producers of fine quality porcelain in the style of Meissen, Dresden, Royal Naples Capodimonte, and Berlin. The firm marked their wares with the crown N mark until 1920, a pseudo mark similar to the original utilized by the Royal Naples / Capodimonte factory in the mid 19th century.
