Volkstedt Hand Painted Madame Pompadour Portrait Cranberry & Gold Trinket Box. Beautiful porcelain oval trinket box with relief molded Rococo floral and scrollwork designs around the bottom of the box. Has a porcelain plaque in the lid with a hand painted portrait of Madame de Pompadour. The bottom of the box is painted in cranberry with gold gilt highlights.
Has gold gilt ormolu mounts. Marked on the bottom with an underglaze blue crossed hay-fork mark on the base. This mark was also later used by Richard Eckert & Co in Volkstedt between 1894 and 1918. Has some wear to the gilding and wear and tarnish to the gilt ormolu mounts, but otherwise good condition with no chips or cracks. Measures approximately 4 inches long x 3 1/4 inches wide x 1 7/8 inches tall. This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not effect the display of the piece.
