Vintage Russian Lacquer Trinket Box Hand Painted With Detail Original Cert

Stunning lacquer Box in very good antique condition. Boxes have been made for centuries in Russia using a time consuming and painstaking process which typically requires one to two months from start to finish. Imagine covering a balsa wood or even a paperboard box with many layers of tissue paper which has been coated in a very sticky lacquer.

Each layer must be dried completely in a sort of oven, then the next layer applied until the basic box is completed. Then the artists begin to hand paint and apply the lovely gold scrollwork borders to the box after which several more layers of clear lacquer is applied and fired. This box includes it's original small paper tag in Russian.
