Hand Painted Octagonal Wooden Box from India Wedding Box with Hinged Lid Vintage
Beautifully Hand Painted Vintage Octagonal Wooden Box from India. This is a Traditional Wedding Box with Hinged and Lockable Lid.
Each Side is Intricately Hand Painted with Scenes of India, Portraits of the Man and Woman, and Indian Designs. Gold Paint is Applied to All Edges and within the Designs.
The Man and Women are Both Wearing Long Double Strands of White Beads on the Sides. On the Top their Beads are Short Multi-strands. On the Sides They are Both Offering Something in Their Fingers to the Other.
On the Top They are Together and Holding Hands. Presumably this is a Pictorial Account of a Wedding. This Well Made Wooden Box Measures 8" Length, 4-1/2" Width, and 3-3/8 Height. The Wood is Nearly 1/2 Thick.The Lid is Hinged and Lockable with a Metal Clasp. A Small Lock would Fit in the Clasp. There are no Cracks or Scratches. Some Vintage Wear as Expected of a Painted Vintage Wooden Box. On the Inside Bottom are Some Marks, Two of Which appear to be Black Ink.
