Antique French Gilt Bronze Box with Hand Painted Portrait Miniature, c. We are pleased to offer for your consideration this antique French gilt bronze box that features a hand painted portrait of a young woman wearing a stylish fabric hat with a large tied ribbon over her long curly hair.

The sitter has a sweet innocent smile on her face. The portrait miniature is under glass with colors that doesn't appear faded. The portrait painting has an illegible signature on the right side of the sitter. The top metal surface of the lid has two tied raised laurel leaf and berry branches on each side of the portrait miniature with a single flower above and below, on a background of vertical lines, stars and dots.

The edge of the lid and around the miniature portrait has a twisted cord pattern. Around the sides of the box feature a continuous raised embossed motif. The exterior lid of the box has a darkened patina on the surface and the gilding has toned down a bit around the sides which is normal for boxes such as these. The interior bottom is lined with a brocade fabric that should also be on the underside of the lid, but is missing here (see photograph) exposing the backside of the mounted miniature portrait and lid. This is exactly how we acquired the box over twenty five years ago and have not tampered with it.

The underside of the box is marked' FRANCE'. The hinged lid functions properly and closes without any issues.

Please take the time to carefully examine all the photographs for more details. The metal box measures approximately 3.75" wide x 3" deep x 1.25 in height. It weighs approximately 6 ounces. All measurements are approximate, but close. We carefully examined this item. As mentioned in the description, the lid is missing the brocade fabric on the underside.

The surfaces on the top portion of the lid have darkened over the years. The gilded color toned down over time. Other than that, NO Breaks, Chips, Cracks, Scratches, Dings, Repairs or Restorations were noted. The hinged lid functions properly and shuts firmly in place.
