Wonderful antique French Napoleon III to Belle Epoque era chocolatier's box or bonbon casket with grey silk or satin covering, hand painted scene on the lid and working lock with key! To this end, we've had fine chocolates boxes in everything from tortoise shell to crystal and dore bronze, but this one is silk over a cotton-padded box, as you can see. This was a house of confection.
The box is about medium in size at 6 wide. The earliest confectioner's boxes were all very small, showing you how the relative value of the rare 1700s imported chocolate (cocoa) became less so over time, yet still warranted a hand made and elegant box.I love this old French tradition. Some light surface soiled spots but no rips or tears that I can see.
The silk covered ball feet are a little thread bare looking. The interior retains the original paper lining with delicate lace around the edges. Working lock with great old gilded skeleton key.See pictures for all measurements. We're easy to deal with. Our fine inventory is very important. And your ranking of our performance is also very important! We wish to keep our 4.9 - 5 star ratings in all categories. We always insure our items BUT, more importantly, pack them extremely well knowing that most are not replaceable. Please remember that when leaving DSR ratings.
