Antique Sevres Style French Porcelain Jewel Box With Hand Painted Scene & Gilding
Antique Sevres Style French Porcelain Jewel Box W/ Hand Painted Scene & Gilding. It was made at Chateau de Longpre in France, probably in the early 1900's and it features a hand painted scene on the lid and hand painted flowers inside. The scene on the lid depicts a man and woman at a lake or river. He is fishing ans she is standing by. The colors are pastels and the scene is nicely painted and signed by the artist, Lefrane. The balance of the piece is a lovely pink with ample raised gilding around the scene and around the entire sides of the piece. Inside are delicate roses and forget-me-nots and more gilding.
The mounting and hinge are brass, as is the closure. The piece is marked with the Chateau de Longpre red inkstamp and "France" in blue. The box is in very nice condition with no chips or cracks, no loss on the painted scene and little loss on the gilt. The hinge, closure and mountings are also fine with a aged patina on the brass.
